If you've ever thought about publishing a children's book . . .
You’ll probably be interested in this new project from the gracious and creative and super smart publisher, Darcy Pattison. She’s finally bringing us the long-promised book full of strategies and insights, a.k.a. secrets for success.
That sounds so hype-y, but she’s genuine, and more to the point of this project: generous.
I can’t wait to “back” this project on “Kickstarter”. (If that’s Greek to you, don’t worry, read this post 🙂
Darcy Pattison is one of my quiet heroes. She does all kinds of things, excellently, and is generous with information without being prescriptive. I can’t wait until this project funds on Kickstarter, so I can read what she has to say about publishing children’s books.
Mim’s House is the name of the boutique publishing house she’s built–quilted together-from words and pictures and science and imagination.
I had the pleasure of interviewing her a few years ago for Indie Author Magazine and I’m still using her insights to drive my own work. She’s also got a Substack about children’s book publishing.
From most people, “$100K/year in book sales” would be hyperbole, but not from Darcy Pattison. She’s not the smooth operator type and she doesn’t need to write a book about publishing to make her publishing work. She’s much too busy creating all the books she dreams up!
If you are a children’s author, especially if you are a picture book author, I think you will find new and valuable insights in this book.
Speaking of support . . .
If you take the time to “back” this Kickstarter campaign, your career will benefit. But when we all get together and support something, we all get to grow and it’s much more fun.
It takes time and energy to distill the experiences from a successful publishing career into a book. But when someone like Darcy Pattison shares generously, a whole generation of new authors get a boost into their careers.
And that means happier authors and more stories for everyone to enjoy!

How Kickstarter works:
Kickstarter projects have a firm end date for several reasons. If the projects reach their financial goal, the funds go to the creator. If not, supporters or “backers” are not charged anything. The project creators have to start again. This rule is meant to protect creators from knocking themselves out to create something without enough resources and to protect “backers” from receiving poor quality creations.
The time limit isn’t hype, because it brings supporters together at one time. This means authors can order special editions of books or set up print runs to make a specialized project. Some books can never be published one book at a time–they are just too labor-intensive to be produced with tiny margins.
